Q: Sounds great. How much is it?
A: The DVD is £29.99 plus P+P at £2.99.
Q: So the DVD has all 4 instruments on it, and they all have the same songs and all the same features?
A: That's right. Guitar, Vocals, Bass and Drums get the same amount of dedicated, fully featured interactive content
Q: All on one DVD?
A: Err...you've caught us out there. We couldn't fit it all on one without making some compromises. So there are 2 dual layer DVD's in the box, both packed with content
Q: Tell me about the audio tracks and how they work
A: Ok. When you use the Instrument Panel, there are always three audio tracks to choose from. Full band, Full band minus your instrument, or your solo instrument. You can make this selection from the menu when you fire up the Instrument Panel, or you can "hot switch" during playback using the "languages" feature on the DVD player. Every DVD player has this feature. Including the one on your computer.
Q: So I learn the performance using the Instrument Panel and then practice playing live by playing with the band or in the band?
A: You've got it. When you play "with" the band there are no resources on screen at all other than the video of the live performance. This is important because on stage there's nothing there to help you. You have to be proficient enough to nail it from memory. Also, because you have internalised the track properly you can express yourself more, and get more out of playing.
Once you think you know it well enough select to play "in" the band. This fires up the same video but without your instrument in the backing track. This is where you nail your live performance. Over time you can change your arrangement, do a better solo or whatever you like. This means the DVD will bring benefits for years to come.
You also have an interview with each musician about each song
Q: Can I buy one without the other instruments? I just play guitar at home.
A: The funny thing about it is, and being completely honest with you, it's no cheaper for us to manufacture in this way. So you may as well have it all. We would still have to charge about the same price. Lend it to a friend! Then you can have a jam with them. If you listen to the interviews from the other musicians they bring a different perspective to each track too.
Q: I've only just started playing. I'm a novice. Is it any good for me?
A: You would definitely benefit from this DVD. Just remember that these songs were big hits executed by top musicians. We've made our arrangements accessible but they are not basic versions. We have tried to capture the original feel of the song. This means a novice will find some of the elements more challenging. Guitar solos and certain drum fills are examples of the stuff that would be challenging for you. But there's nothing to stop you using the DVD as a marker for your progress. As your skills improve you will be able to notice the improvements in your live performance.
You can watch close ups on specific techniques over and over again and you will definitely get incremental benefits out of it for a long time. But don't blame us if you get frustrated at first!
There isn't a single scale exercise or a drop of theory in Gigmeister. It's pure practical stuff.
Q: Who are you?
A: If you go to the "Buy it Now" page, all our details are there. My name is Andy Wilson. I am a Sax player who wishes he was a lot better than he is. It's my bald spot on the interviews!
Q: Whose idea was this new format?
A: The guitarist on the DVD is Paul Shead. His original concept was one that allowed bands to practice new tracks without having to be at a practice session together. This is another reason why all 4 instruments are in the pack. Musicians could practice at home and get together at rehearsals to make it their own using our arrangement as the base.
Q: Will you be doing more?
A: We have a 2nd Gigmeister Rock on the way right now, and we'll also be doing some other stuff too. Go to http://www.myspace.com/workingmuso to make friends and keep updated.
Q: Ok ok I'll buy it!
A: :-) Great. Go here.
